About Standard (High G) tuning
Standard ukulele tuning is G C E A with a twist: the fourth (top) string is tuned to a high G above the C, not below it. This 're-entrant' arrangement gives the ukulele its signature bright, close-voiced bounce — 'My Dog Has Fleas,' as generations learned to sing it.
Tune one string at a time; note that the G string is G4, higher in pitch than the C string next to it. If a string is way off, tune up to the note rather than down — strings hold better approached from below.
